Rehab-at-Home™ exercise is a critical part of the rehabilitation process, accelerating recovery, controling costs and reducing inconvenience. Patients describe compliance difficulties due to travel time, scheduling, as well as hard-to-follow booklets or photocopied instruction sheets for exercise at home. To address these challenges, RVision Corporation™ has developed a unique library of FIT: Faciliated Independent Therapy® programs, each created for a specific injury or medical condition. Every RVision program has been designed and reviewed by medical, physical therapy and nurse specialists. The programs combine the benefits of instructor-led clinical sessions with the time-saving convenience of home exercising programs. Over the years, thousands of RVision programs have been sold. When surveyed, 92% of users say they like the program and would highly recommend on to a friend or family member. A number of clinical studies have also shown the benefits of FIT: In a study of patients with back and neck pain, a large capitated HMO in a competitive Texas market used RVision videotapes, self-management and physician follow-up visits for patients back and neck injuries and pain. Patients were evaluated and instructed by a physician to use the RVision program at home, but also advised that they could go to physical therapy sessions if the problem did not resolve. As a result of using the videotapes: (1) Fewer than 10% of enrollees failed self-management and required referral to physical therapy; (2) A estimated $250,000 annual savings were realized by the HMO; (3) Activities of Daily Living (ADL)/Function improved significantly; (4) Level of pain was significantly reducted; and (5) 92% of patients were highly satisfied with this approach to care and would use another RVision program if re-injured. RVision, in collaboration with Rose Biomedical Development Corporation, has been the recipient of numerous grants from the National Institutes of Health, which were utilized to develop the FIT programs, as well as evaluate their efficacy. Participating patients who have used the programs in these studies: (1) Had fewer hospital days and fewer days in rehabilitation; (2) reported more realistic post-operative expectations; (3) Exercised 46% more often than those who received only text-based materials; (4) Rated the quality of the programs and the instruction as "excellent"; and (5) Indicated they would "strongly recommend" the FIT programs to others. Finally, in a study looking at compliance to exercise prescription, time to functionality, cost of care and satisfaction for 250 patients with Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) and 250 patients with Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA). Conclusions included: (1) Reduced length of hospitalization; (2) A more rapid return to functionality; and (3) High level of satisfaction.
